Raytheon to integrate electronics systems for LPD 25

9 May 2008

Raytheon has been awarded a $32 million contract to develop and integrate the total ship electronics systems for LPD 25, the ninth ship of the US Navy's LPD 17 class of expeditionary warfare ships.

Under the contract, awarded by Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding, Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems extends its role as the total ship electronics systems integrator for all LPD 17-class ships. IDS will provide the Shipboard Wide Area Network, integrated product data environment, total ship information management, and integrated ship electronics architecture.

"Raytheon's systems and integration expertise ensures that the warfighters of the LPD 17 class have the most advanced, proven and reliable capabilities they need when they need them," said Robert Martin, IDS' vice president and deputy of Seapower Capability Systems. "Raytheon continues to leverage the transformational technology advancements, experience, and success gained on LPD 17, Zumwalt and CVN 78 programmes to deliver mature, common, and affordable solutions for the US Navy's family of ships."

In addition to the total ship electronics systems integrator role, Raytheon is the prime contractor for life-cycle engineering and support of Raytheon-designed and developed equipment for the LPD 17 class of ships. For LPD 25, Raytheon will also deliver the Ship Self Defense System Mk 2 open architecture combat management system, which incorporates portions of the Total Ship Computing Environment Infrastructure developed for the Zumwalt-class (DDG 1000) destroyer.
