CAE awarded contracts for five full-flight simulators

CAE has signed contracts to design and manufacture five full-flight simulators (FFSs) and associated CAE Simfinity training devices for customers globally, valued at more than C$60 million at list prices. The contracts are with Lufthansa Flight Training, Flight Training Finance (FTF), Swiss Aviation Training and the Zhuhai Flight Training Centre in China. These are the first five FFS sales that CAE has announced in its fiscal year 2009.

"In keeping with the flow of aircraft deliveries, the majority of simulator orders have come from operators outside North America. We are especially delighted to receive our first order from China for our new CAE 5000 Series simulator," said Marc Parent, CAE's Group President, Simulation Products and Military Training & Services.

Lufthansa Flight Training GmbH (LFT) has ordered a CAE 7000 Series Boeing 777-200 long range freighter (LRF) FFS. The CAE 7000 Series Boeing 777-200LRF FFS will be delivered in 2009 to LFT's training centre in Berlin, Germany and will be used for pilot training of Aerologic's pilots preparing to operate the new aircraft for cargo operations. Aerologic is the name for the new joint venture carrier established by Lufthansa Cargo and DHL Express. LFT has now ordered a total of 31 CAE flight simulators since 1980, including five over the past two years.

CAE sold a CAE 7000 Series Boeing 757 FFS to Flight Training Finance (FTF), LLC, a specialised simulator leasing company. FTF will provide the simulator to Icelandic Flight Academy to support pilot training for Icelandair. The simulator will be delivered in 2009 and will be the first simulator in Iceland certified to Level D, the highest qualification for flight simulators.

CAE sold a CAE 7000 Series Embraer 190 FFS to Swiss Aviation Training (SAT), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Swiss International Airlines. The EMB190 FFS for SAT will be delivered later this year.

CAE has received an order for two CAE 5000 Series A320 FFSs and related training devices from Zhuhai Flight Training Centre, a joint venture between China Southern Airlines and CAE. CAE will also provide a CAE Simfinity A320 Integrated Procedures Trainer (IPT), a reconfigurable CAE Simfinity Airbus Pilot Transition (APT) trainer, and a CAE Simfinity Boeing 787 Virtual Simulator (VSIM). Deliveries of the training devices to the Zhuhai Flight Training Centre in Zhuhai's free trade zone will begin later this year. This order will bring the total number of CAE-built simulators that the Zhuhai Flight Training Centre operates to 15, maintaining its position as the largest independent flight training facility in China.
