LCAL purchases GEnx engines for Boeing 787 aircraft

1 May 2008

LCAL has agreed to purchase GEnx engines to power up to 13 of its Boeing 787 aircraft. The engines are valued at more than $350 million list price.

The Dubai-based aircraft leasing company was established in 2005 with its business based exclusively on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Royal Jordanian will lease three of LCAL's GEnx-powered 787 aircraft to be the first airline in the Middle East to operate the aircraft when they are delivered.

"LCAL is delighted to be able to offer its Boeing B787 customers the GEnx engine," said Steve Clarke President of LCAL. "This aircraft / engine combination produces tremendous fuel savings in comparison with current aircraft and fully demonstrates LCAL's commitment to only being involved with technology that is driving down the carbon footprint of air transport."

"We are very pleased to finalize this order with LCAL," said Jack Lutze, regional sales manager for GE Aviation. "This order helps GE increase its presence in the region and will allow more customers to operate GEnx-powered Boeing 787 aircraft."
